NU opens the season with a win

The Northeastern women's swimming & diving team defeated intra-city rival Boston University by a score of 164.5 to 135.5. Freshman Elena Alvarez set a new school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 220.86.

Freshman Alexandra Doty made major contributions to the team winning the 100 backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Seniors Emily Crookall-Nixon and Sarah Reddick both won their individual events. Reddick took the 50 and 100 freestyle and Crookall-Nixon won the 200-yard backstroke.

The Northeastern relay teams took home two victories in the 200 medley and 400 free relay.

The Huskies next meet is at Old Dominion with William & Mary and Delaware on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5. NU's first home meet is against Boston College on Friday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.
