The Northeastern swimming and diving team topped Boston in College in thrilling fashion on Friday by a score of 151 to 149 at Barletta Natatorium.

Neither Northeastern nor Boston College held a commanding lead in what would turn out to be one of the closest finishes in Northeastern history. It seemed Northeastern had finally pulled away at the last event, the 400 freestyle relay, but Boston College finished first and second in the race, leaving the Huskies with a narrow margin of victory.

Junior Elena Alvarez had 18 individual points for the Huskies and was also a part of the first-place 200 medley relay team. Alvarez finished first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Sophomore Emily Sutliff also won two events for the Huskies: the 500 and 1000 freestyle events.

Senior Brittany Gilles dominated the competition in diving, as she won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events to give the Huskies 18 points.

Sophomore Kathrine Fugge also had an impressive day for the Huskies, as she took first in the 200 individual medley and finished second in both the 100 and 200 freestyles.

The Huskies are back in action on Sat., Oct. 20, when they will visit Central Connecticut for a 12 p.m. meet.
