Assistant coach Julie Mitchell-Norton enters her second season on head coach Roy Coates’ staff and brings experience as both a coach and an outstanding swimmer. Her help will be vital as the Huskies enter the highly-competitive Colonial Athletic Association in 2005-06. Previously, Norton was head coach at Stoneham High and prior to that was head coach at Winchester High and was assistant at Melrose High.

Norton attended the University of Miami in Florida on a swimming scholarship, specializing in the distance freestyle events. she was the 1995 Big East champ in the 1650 freestyle.

Originally from Stoneham, Mass., Norton attended Nazareth Academy. Norton competed at the national level for Bernal’s Gator Swim Club and the Fort Lauderdale Swim Team. She set the New England open age group record in the 1650 freestyle.

Norton earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Salem State College. She recently returned to Salem State and earned her master’s degree in education. She currently works full-time as a seventh grade English teacher in Wilmington, Mass. She recently was married to Kevin Norton and resides in Everett, Mass.
