The Northeastern volleyball team faced the Colonial Athletic Association leaders on the road for the second time in three matches, and came up with the same result, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Hofstra on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Hempstead, N.Y. NU fell to then CAA-leading Towson last Friday night in Maryland. The Huskies are now 7-9 overall (5-4 CAA) while Hofstra moved to 11-6 (8-1 CAA).
In game one, the Pride took a 1-0 lead and never trailed in a 30-25 triumph. The Huskies found themselves down by six points at 17-11, but rallied to trim the deficit to three on five different occasions, but could never get closer in the frame.
Game two was NU's best of the afternoon, as they pushed the home squad to game point, but the Huskies were unable to take the frame. The two teams battled back-and-forth throughout the game, and were tied on 15 different occasions. NU fell behind 26-25 late in the frame, but ran off four straight tallies to push Hofstra to the brink. Unfortunately for the visitors, the Pride rallied for six of the next seven points to take the 32-30 victory.
The Pride carried over that momentum into the third and final frame, and jumped out to a 19-9 lead. NU was unable to recover in the game, as the Pride took the match with a 30-16 triumph.
Larissa Adomat posted a season-high 13 kills for the evening, registering a .333 attack percentage. Kira Batura made 18 digs in the contest, the 21st consecutive match in which she has registered double-digit digs. Chelsea Carroll had 22 assists and Ashley Reeves made three blocks for NU.
The Pride got 14 kills from Tessa Sphar and 11 from Talita Silva, while Shellane Ogoshi posted 32 assists. Four Hofstra players made double-digit digs in the match, led by Ogoshi's 19. Elizabeth Curley made six blocks, four solo.
NU is back in action Sunday at 2 p.m., when NU heads to Fairfield for a non-conference matchup.
