Lauren DeTurk made 15 kills for the Northeastern volleyball team, but the Huskies were topped on Solomon Court on Saturday, Oct. 22 by Georgia State 3-1 (30-22, 24-30, 30-23, 30-26). Three other players tallied double-digit kills for the Huskies, while the Panthers got 20 kills from Robyn van Dam. Northeastern is now 10-12 (7-6 Colonial Athletic Association), while GSU climbed to 6-14 (6-7 CAA).

Game one belonged to the Panthers, who never trailed in a 30-22 victory. The Huskies fell behind 19-10 midway through the frame, but fought back to trim the deficit to 21-16. A Panther timeout stopped the momentum, though, and the visitors took a 1-0 match lead.

In game two, the Huskies rebutted, taking a 5-4 lead and never trailing in a 30-24 victory. The Huskies climbed out to a 20-13 lead after four consecutive points, two on GSU attack errors. The two teams traded points up to 23-17, and the Huskies got three straight points to take a 26-17 lead, and moved on to a 30-24 victory.

Just before game three, the GSU men's soccer team arrived in the crowd and brought the momentum back in favor of the road squad. NU fell behind 5-1 early and never led in the frame. The Huskies fought back to ties at seven, 11 and 12, but Georgia State pushed ahead to a 23-16 lead and the home squad could get no closer than 26-22 the rest of the way, with van Dam finishing off the game with a kill.

The Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game four, but GSU chipped away at the lead and finally gained the lead at 24-23 in a back and forth match. It looked like NU was going to force a fifth game in the latter stages of the frame, taking a 22-16 lead. But a GSU timeout shifted the momentum, and the visitors took eight of the next nine points to get a 24-23 edge. The Huskies closed the game to 27-26, but the Panthers ended with three straight points to take the match.

In addition to DeTurk's 15 kills, Ashley Reeves made 12, Larissa Adomat 11 and Whitney Turner 10. Ivana Pavlisin and Chelsea Carroll each made 26 assists, while Kira Batura contributed 24 digs. Reeves led the Huskies with three blocks.

GSU got 18 kills from Alex Blenche, while Jordan Thomas piled up 49 assists. Ana Paula Ferreira led GSU with 16 digs, while van Dam made a match-high six blocks.

The Huskies are back in action Friday, Oct. 28, when they go head-to-head with Virginia Commonwealth for a 7 p.m. matchup.
