The Northeastern volleyball team was defeated in its season finale, 3-1 (21-30, 30-26, 30-25, 30-22) at the hands of Hofstra on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Solomon Court. The Huskies finish their first season in the Colonial Athletic Association at 11-16 (8-10 CAA), while the Pride clinched the regular season championship at 19-7 (16-2 CAA) and will host the conference tournament next weekend. Before the match, Northeastern honored senior tri-captains Brandie Genibrel, Larissa Adomat and Lindsay Feller.

NU got out to a quick start in the first game and dominated the Pride in a 30-21 win. The Huskies outhit HU .229 to .080 in the game, as Ashley Reeves registered six kills and Whitney Turner made seven. The two combined to hit .478 in the frame, as NU led from 3-2 on. Leading middle hitter Talita Silva struggled in game one for the Pride, making two errors and registering no kills.

It looked as if the Huskies would carry that momentum over in the second game, as NU jumped out to a 16-10 lead midway through the frame. Then the Pride chipped slowly away at the deficit, finally grabbing its first edge at 24-23. The Huskies evened the frame at 24, but HU rallied off the next four points and went on to a 30-26 victory. Hofstra’s Elizabeth Curley tallied nine kills in the game and had made 17 through two stanzas.

Game three was an incredibly close frame, as the two teams were tied on ten different occasions. NU got the first decisive edge at 16-12 with Ivana Pavlisin at the serve, but the Pride was able to fight back to a 23-all tie. The Huskies took their last lead at 24-23 before Hofstra grabbed seven of the final eight points of the frame to win the game by a 30-25 margin.

Northeastern fell behind early in game four, but fought back to tie the game up at 10. The two squads traded points to 14-all, when HU got three straight on a pair of NU errors and never trailed again in a 30-22 victory. The Pride hit .205 and made five blocks in the game, while NU hit just .100.

The Huskies got 14 kills from Turner and 13 from Reeves, while Genibrel added 12 kills and 20 digs in her last collegiate contest. Kira Batura registered 30 digs, the third consecutive match in which she has performed that feat. Adomat had nine kills and five blocks in her final game in a Northeastern uniform, while Feller added two blocks of her own.

Curley led all players with 20 kills in the match to go with eight blocks. Tessa Sphar chipped in 13 kills, while freshman Lauren Engle stepped in for the struggling Silva to make 10 kills, 11 digs, and four blocks. Shellane Ogoshi made 50 assists and 32 digs in the victory for the Pride.

Northeastern finishes the season in seventh place in the CAA with its 8-10 conference record, being edged by James Madison for the final playoff spot.
