Lauren DeTurk achieved a milestone on Friday, recording her 1000th career kill but it was not enough as the Huskies fell in four sets to Tulane.
The Huskies came roaring out in the first set with a 4-0 run led by serves from junior Jessica Tkachuk. Northeastern led by as many as five points and was in control. But Tulane would not go away as they came back to tie the set. Tulane went on an 8-0 run to bring the game to 21-20 in favor of Northeastern. The Huskies and the Green Wave went back and forth and had a total of 11 ties from that point on. NU had three set points to Tulane’s eight, but captain Lauren DeTurk stepped up and took the game into her own hands. She had five kills that brought the score up to 33-32 in favor of Northeastern. Tulane’s Jen Linder tied the score to 33 all, but two attack errors by the Green Wave led to a Husky victory in set number one.
The second set did not go so well for Northeastern. Tulane got off to a great start going on several different scoring runs throughout the game. The Green Wave had a hit percentage of .448 and held the Huskies to just .168 hit percentage. Tulane lead by as many as 10 and went on to win the set.
Northeastern just could not get it going on the third set. The team committed 12 errors. Tulane was too strong in the set and made quick work of NU.
The Huskies came back in the forth set looking for revenge. They forced Tulane to 12 errors and NU accumulated for eight kills. Throughout the set it was close but Tulane was able to hold on for the win.
DeTurk had a double-double posting a season high 16 kills with a hit percentage of .289 with 11 digs. Junior Leah Neubeck had a match high 20 digs.
Northeastern will conclude its stay in California when the Huskies take on host No. 14 Cal Poly Saturday at 6 p.m. (EDT).
