Northeastern suffered some battle wounds in lost to Army on Saturday at the Big Orange Tournament in Syracuse N.Y. The Huskies, who have been playing without senior opposite side Sarah Stein and rookie Lauryn Ciszek, suffered their sixth straight loss. In the first set Army took an early two point lead but the Huskies came roaring back and went on a 6-0 run making the score 12-6 in favor of NU. Army made a comeback cutting the lead down to one but the great play of Jessica Tkachuk helped the Huskies overcome the Black Knights’ run. The second set would not fair so well for the Huskies. Northeastern could not get it going as it had a hit percentage of .079 and committed eight errors. The Black Knights started off the set on a 9-0 run. The Huskies made a late rally, due to the great severe of Britney Brown, and cut the lead down to two. But Army was too strong and held on to a 25-19 victory. The very competitive third set saw a total of 10 ties and lead changes. Northeastern stayed in the set despite having a hit percentage of .033 and only accumulating seven kills. Army pulled away towards the end of the set and did not look back as the Black Knights went on to win set number three. In the fourth set, Army came out and took an early lead. Jessica Tkachuk’s severing boosted the Huskies back in the set as they went on a 6-0 run to bring the score to 11-7 in favor of Northeastern. The Black Knights and the Huskies would flip-flop scores late in the set but a costly error by Northeastern allowed Army to slip away with a victory. Northeastern plays its final game at the Big Orange Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
