The volleyball team cruised their way to a 3-0 win over Holy Cross and the Mass. Challenge Saturday at Solomon Court. Senior Sarah Stein was named tournament MVP while Lauren DeTurk and Brianna Seitz were named to the All-Tournament team.
In the first set the Huskies had a hit percentage of .382 and committed only one error. Holy Cross came out fighting in the beginning of the set taking an early lead. The Crusaders were up by as many as four early on. But following a timeout call by Head Coach Ken Nichols, NU came roaring back with a 6-0 run led by great serves from Brianna Seitz. The Crusaders were within one late in the set but that was as close as they would get as Lauren DeTurk closed out the set serving and earning Northeastern eight straight points to win the set.
The Crusaders came out in the second set early posting a 3-2 lead over the Huskies but that was the last time they would come close to NU. Northeastern went on a 7-0 run to take a 8-3 lead. Holy Cross tired to rally back making a late run of their own but the team’s nine errors cost them the set.
The Huskies came out hungry in the third set only allowing Holy Cross to four points in the first 20 points of the set. Rookie Stephanie Starnes recorded three kill and had a hip percentage of .750 in the set. The third set was all Northeastern as it was too much to handle for Holy Cross. The Huskies easily won the set 25-11.
Northeastern is back in action when it faces New Hampshire at Durham Tuesday Sept. 23 at 7 p.m
