The volleyball team earned its first CAA win of the season by defeating Hofstra 3-2 on Saturday at Adelphi, Garden City, N.Y. The match saw two Huskies get double-doubles in sophomore Britney Brown and captain Lauren DeTurk. Brown recorded 13 kills and 24 assists. DeTurk had a season and match-high 21 kills along with 14 digs. The win now improves NU to 7-7 overall and 1-0 in the CAA.

The first set was a true battle between the two teams. The set saw a total of 10 ties and 11 lead changes. Hofstra had a hit percentage of .235 to Northeastern’s .121. The Huskies, down late in the set, rallied back to tie it 20-20. But late errors in the set cost the Huskies as the Pride went on to win the set 25-21.

The Huskies came roaring back in the second set committing only four errors and a whopping .286 hit percentage. Hofstra only led once in the set. NU’s Jillian Robison, who had four kills with a perfect hit percentage and two blocks, was too much for the Pride as Northeastern went on to win the second set. 25-20.

The third set was all Hofstra. The Pride led for the almost the entire set. Northeastern had nine errors in the set. Lauren DeTurk’s seven kills was not enough as Hofstra went on to win the set by a score of 25-20. Down 2-1 in the match, the Huskies recorded 19 kills and had a .382 hit percentage in set number four. Sophomore Helene Servillon entered and served the Huskies to a 5-0 run that enlighten NU and helped the team win the set and tie the match at 2-2.

In the crucial fifth set, Hofstra took an early 3-1 lead. But that would not last for long as Britney Brown and the Huskies came fighting back. NU tied the set at 10 all and did not permit the Pride to over the lead. A kill by senior Brianna Seitz gave the Huskies a 15-14 lead. The Pride would then commit a costly error that allowed Northeastern to win the set and the match.

Junior Jessica Tkachuk had a match-high 26 assist. She also added two kills and eight digs. Leah Neubeck and a match-high 14 digs while sophomore Helene Servillon played in a season-high three sets and recorded 11 digs and two assists for the Huskies.

Northeastern continues CAA play when it travels to James Madison Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
