The volleyball team defeated James Madison 3-1 on Friday. The Huskies improve to 8-7 overall and 2-0 CAA. Junior Jessica Tkachuk who recoreded a career-high 41 assist in the match led Northeastern. NU had saw two players in who recorded double-doubles in Lauren DeTurk (12 kills, 13 digs) and Brianna Seitz (17 kills, 10 digs). Junior Leah Neubeck chipped in with a match-high 17 digs. The win marks the sixth straight for the Huskies.

The first set was a battle between the two teams. Northeastern got on the board first off a kill by Caitlin Tittl. James Madison came back quickly and tied the set at 3-3. Both teams went on early runs and the set was later tied at eight all. The Huskies and the Dukes went back and forth scoring until the score was tied at 12. JMU went on a 6 to 2 run leading the set 18-14. But NU would not go down without a fight as they went on a run on their own. Northeastern rallied back off of the kills from Brianna Seitz to bring the set to with in three. But the comeback came to late and James Madison went on to win the set 25-21.

The Huskies had 14 kills and a hit percentage of .357 in the second set. NU held James Madison to a hit percentage of .077. Northeastern got off to a face start. The Huskies went on a 6-0 run off the tremendous serves of Sarah Stein. The Dukes tired to rally back but the Huskies were too strong and won the set 25-13.

In the third set, Northeastern led JMU to commit 14 errors and have a hit percentage of .000. The two teams went back and fourth throughout the entire set. NU was able to break loose with a 3-0 run. James Madison rallied back and tied the set at 15 all. Sarah Stein led the Huskies to 3-0 run off of her serves. The Dukes cut down the lead down to two, but NU held them off and won the set by a score of 25-22.

The fourth set was another example of great volleyball action. NU once again was on the board first. The score would flip-flop several times. With the score at 11-9 in favor of the Dukes, Northeastern’s Brianna Seitz went up to serve for the Huskies and led a 4-0 run while posting three aces. The two teams would swap points again until late in the set when NU’s Jessica Tkachuk went to serve. The junior guided the Huskies on a 4-0 run which led to a Northeastern victory in the set and the match.

NU continues CAA action Saturday when it takes on George Mason in Fairfax, Va. at 7 p.m.
