| 2008 Schedule/Results Northeastern 3, Georgia State 0
In their first home CAA match, the Huskies defeated Georgia State in straight sets in front of a rowdy crowd at Solomon Court Friday night. The volleyball team improves to 12-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the CAA. CAA Player of the Week Britney Brown had a match-high 13 assists giving her 1000 in her career. Captain Lauren DeTurk had a match-high 11 kills and nine digs. Junior Leah Neubeck chipped in with a match-high 12 digs. Georgia State came out attacking in the first set showing no fear. The Panthers jumped to an early 5-2 lead. But the Huskies rallied back scoring six straight points from DeTurk’s serves to take a 9-5 lead. The Panthers quickly bounced back and tied the set at 10 all. The two teams would exchange points throughout the set. Northeastern’s strong defense on Georgia State forced the Panthers to commit nine costly errors including two late in the set that allowed the Huskies to win the set 25-21. In the second set in was all Northeastern. The Huskies started the set with a 4-1 lead. The Panthers came within three thanks to the great serves of Alysa Long, but GSU’s eight errors and -.059 hit percentage would not allow them to get any closer. NU had two runs late in the set and captured a victory in set number two. The third set was a nail biter. The two teams went back and forth throughout the entire set. The Huskies got some breathing room thanks to Jessica Tkachuk, whose serve ace started a Northeastern 4-0 run. Georgia State made a run of its own and came within one at 13-12. But that was as close as the Panthers would get, as Northeastern’s 10 kills rallied to a 25-20 victory. The Huskies are back in action when they host UNC Wilmington Sunday at 1 p.m.
