The volleyball team held UNC Wilmington to a .000 hit percentage as NU went on to win the match, 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Solomon Court. The Huskies, 13-7 overall, 7-0 in the CAA, now have won 11 straight matches. Sophomore Britney Brown broke a school service ace record with 10. Jessica Tkachuk had a match-high 17 assists. Lauren DeTurk added a match-high nine kills while Leah Neubeck posted a match-high 11 digs.
Neither team hit well in the first set but Northeastern did not have to due to the great team serving. Caitlin Tittl started it off by guiding the Huskies to an early 4-1 lead with great serving. The Seahawks rallied back to tie up the set at 5-5. Northeastern went on a 10-0 run off of the serves of Britney Brown who accumulated five service aces to guide the Huskies to a 15-5 lead. UNC Wilmington attempted a late run but Northeastern was too strong and held on for the win, 25-16.
Feeding off the momentum of the first set, Brown once again took matters in her own hands by recording three serve aces and guiding the Huskies to an early 7-3 lead. Northeastern went on 9-0 run that was lead by Brianna Seitz’s two kills and DeTurk’s service ace. UNC Wilmington was unable to regroup and allowing NU to ease its way to a 25-12 victory.
In the third set the Huskies once again came out fighting taking a quick 4-2 lead. NU added on to its lead thanks to Brown’s four kills and one service ace. Freshman Lauryn Ciszek chipped in with two block assists. The Seahawks threatened with a late 5-0 run, but the Huskies held them off and won the set and the match.
Northeastern will be back in action, when it host Hofstra Saturday Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. on Solomon Court.
