Senior outside hitter Lauren DeTurk had 14 kills and 7 digs while Britney Brown recorded her sixth double-double of the season (15 assists, 10 digs), but it was not enough as Hofstra defeated the Huskies 25-15, 25-18, 27-25 Saturday.
The Huskies drops to 13-8 overall and 7-1 in the CAA, suffering their first lost since Sept. 13 and gives them their first lost in the CAA. Hofstra improves to 12-11 overall and 5-3 in the CAA.
Lauren DeTurk recorded her 1,000th dig in the match, becoming the sixth Husky to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
Northeastern struck first with a 2-0 advantage in the first set. But Hofstra quickly came back to tie the set at 4-4. The Huskies took a 6-4 lead off a kill by Lauren DeTurk. The Pride took advantage of a hall handling error by NU to compile a 7-0 run. NU, down by as many as 10, was unable to make a come back allowing Hofstra to win the set by a score of 25-15.
The Huskies came out in the second set looking sharp, but the momentum of Hofstra was too much to handle as the as the Pride won the set 25-18. Both teams started off the second set strong playing fierce aggressive volleyball. Following a timeout with the score tied at 13, Northeastern took a 3-0 run taking a 16-13 advantage. The Pride came back to tie the set at 16 all and finished the set on a 7-0 run earning their second win in the match.
Sophomore Helene Servillon gave Northeastern some much needed sparks of the bench as she recorded three digs and served well for the Huskies. NU had an early 5-2 advantage over Hofstra, but the Pride fought back tying the set at 8 all. The two teams would flip-flop points throughout the set. Following the eighth tie of the set at 24-24, Hofstra sneaked by the Huskies scoring the final two points to win by a narrow 27-25.
Northeastern is back in action on Sunday Oct. 26 when it travels to non-conference opponent Fairfield.
