The Huskies lost its first CAA road match Friday night, falling to Delaware 3-0 at Barbara Viera Court. Lauren DeTurk recorded her ninth double-double of the season (13 kills, 10 digs) while Leah Nuebeck had a team-high 13 digs.
Senior Brianna Seitz had five kills and 10 digs in the (25-27, 22-25, 19-25) loss. Caitlin Tittl chipped in with a team-high 5 blocks.
The Huskies got off to a 4-0 lead off of the serves of Brianna Seitz, who had an ace during the run. But the Blue Hens pecked at the lead to bring the set even at eight. Delaware then went to on to take a two-point lead that was soon erased by the swings of NU’s Lauren DeTurk. The two teams would then flip-flop points until the end of the set. With the set knotted at 25-25, the Huskies would make to crucial errors costing them the first set.
The highly competitive second set started the same way the first set finished. The two teams exchanged points and had six ties before Delaware took a two-point breathing room with a 14-12 lead. The Huskies rallied back to tie up the set at 14 all. The tie would not last for long as the Blue Hens went on to take a 21-17 lead. Sophomore Helene Servillon attempted to bring some sparks for the Huskies off the bench, but it was too late as the Blue Hens went on to win the set by a score of 25-22.
Delaware kept the momentum going into the third set taking an 8-3 advantage early on in the set. With the match on the line, Northeastern’s Britney Brown stepped up and made some plays. Brown had four kills, four assists, and three digs in the set. Down by as many as five late in the set, the Huskies rallied back narrowing the gap to three. But that was as close as they would get has the Blue Hens held on to win the match.
The Huskies head back to the court Saturday night at Towson at 5 p.m.
