Huskies announce 2009 schedule
The defending CAA regular season champion Huskies have released their
2009 schedule, head coach Ken Nichols announced Thursday. Northeastern
will play a 28-game slate that will include nine home dates at Solomon
Court. The Huskies will open the season Aug. 28 against Long Island in
the UMBC Tournament in Baltimore.

Huskies finish off great 2008
The Huskies had a stellar 2008 season finishing first in the CAA with a 12-2 record. The team’s 19 overall wins, is the sixth time head coach Ken Nichols has won that many or more games since coming to Northeastern in 2000. The Huskies also advanced to the CAA Finals for the first time since joining the conference and the first time they have reached a conference final since 2001.

Huskies highlights video
The Northeastern volleyball team has compiled its 2008 highlights video. Northeastern won its first-ever CAA regular season title and advanced to the CAA Championship game in 2008. NU finished the season 19-11 overall and had a 12-2 CAA record. Lauren DeTurk was named CAA Player of the Year and head coach Ken Nichols was named CAA Co-Coach of the Year.

DeTurk named AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention
Senior Lauren DeTurk was named All-East Region Honorable Mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Dec. 10. The reigning CAA Player of the Year, ranked in the top 10 in several categories in the CAA including second in kills, and guided the Huskies to a first place finish in the conference and an appearance in the CAA Finals. With the selection, DeTurk is now eligible for AVCA’s All-American teams.

Huskies come up short in CAA title match
Top-seeded Northeastern came within two points of the CAA title, but lost the fifth set 15-13 and lost the match 3-2 to Delaware in the CAA Championship game on Monday night at Solomon Court. CAA Player of the Year Lauren DeTurk had a career-high 28 kills to go along with 18 digs and was named All-Tournament. Leah Neubeck had 24 digs and was named All-Tournament. Britney Brown had 31 assists, 10 kills and 11 digs. The Huskies won the CAA regular season title with a 12-2 record and finish 19-11 overall.
