Nov. 15, 2007
Boston, MA

Senior Kira Batura, junior Lauren DeTurk, and freshman Caitlin Tittl of the volleyball team were honored by the CAA for their accomplishments on the court this season during the conference’s award’s banquet Thursday. Tittl was selected CAA Rookie of the Year, third team All-CAA and to the CAA All-Rookie team. Batura was named first team All-CAA, and Deturk was named second team All-CAA. As the No. 2 seed in the CAA Tournament, the Huskies will play either No. 3 Hofstra or No. 6 George Mason Saturday at 7: 30 p.m.

Tittl, named Co-Rookie of the Week Nov. 5, was fourth on the Huskies in kills with 243. She led the team and was eighth in the CAA in hitting percentage with a .246 mark, and led the Huskies and was sixth overall in the CAA in blocks with 1.11 per game. Tittl is the second Husky in four years to win Rookie of the Year, joining Batura who won the award in 2004.

Batura, who was named preseason All-CAA this year and second team All-CAA in 2006, was second on the Huskies in kills despite missing the final five games of the year due to injury. For the year, Batura recorded 299 kills, an average of 2.99 a game, and was second on the team in digs with 431, an average of 4.31 a game. During the season, Batura became just the eighth Husky all-time to record 1,000 kills, reaching the milestone against Hofstra on Oct. 20. She also holds the school’s all-time digs record with 1,881.

DeTurk, twice named CAA Player of the Week this season, led the Huskies in kills with 447, an average of 3.79 per game which was good for fifth overall in the CAA. She was also third on the team in digs with 419, and finished the season with 19 double-doubles, including 16 straight to finish the season.

Northeastern finished the regular season with an 11-3 record in the CAA, good for second place, and 19-12 overall.
