Northeastern 59, Quinnipiac 54
Betsy Palecek added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies, who won their season opener for the second straight season. Colleen Klopp paced Quinnipiac (0-2) with 15 points, while Kerry Roche had 10 points and Kim Misiaszek six to go with a game-high 14 rebounds. With NU down 50-49 and under three minutes left, Tinsley made a layup and was fouled, converting the three-point play to give the Huskies a 52-50 edge. Quinnipiac, playing its first season at the Division I level, stayed with NU all night, reclaiming the lead at 54-53 on a Klopp layup with 1:26 left. But Tinsley made a free throw and then a jumper to give the Huskies the lead for good at 56-54 with 43 seconds left. Palecek made a pair of free throws with 32 seconds remaining to secure the win. Both teams were rusty, combining for 41 turnovers. Foul trouble also plagued the visiting Braves, who had four players foul out. Quinnipiac jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and extended it to 23-15 with 5:21 left in the first half for its largest lead of the night. The Huskies closed the half with a 12-3 run to take a 27-26 edge into intermission. Tinsley had 14 of her 21 points in the first half. Tinsley scored her 1000th point late in the second half, becoming just the seventh player in NU history to reach the milestone. She accomplished the feat sooner than any previous Husky, doing it in career game 56.
