Sophomore Lani Lawrence led the Huskies to a 53-44 victory over Loyola in the first round of the Cornell Tournament. Lawrence recorded a double-double of 15 points and 17 rebounds. She also blocked six shots. Wanda Almengot chipped in with 15 points as well, and Betsy Palecek added 10. The game was tied at the half, 26-26, but NU limited Loyola to just 19.4 percent shooting in the second half (6-31). The Huskies opened the second half with an 18-4 run to take control of the game and the Greyhounds could come no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Northeastern improved its record to 3-1 while Loyola suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 2-1.
