Northeastern 90, Delaware 67
Tesha Tinsley set a school record with 41 points to lead Northeastern past Delaware, 90-67, in an America East women’s basketball game at Cabot Gym.
Tinsley finished the game 14 of 15 from the field, including 3 for 3 from three-point range, and added nine rebounds and three assists. The Huskies won their second straight game and improved to 8-3, 2-1 in league play. Delaware dropped to 6-5, 0-3 in America East.
The visiting Blue Hens controlled the first half, building a lead as large as seven points, 32-25, and taking a 35-33 edge into intermission. Cindy Johnson had 14 of her team-high 22 points for Delaware before the break.
The Huskies dominated the second half, however, opening with a 14-0 run that made it 47-35 with 15:12 to play. Tinsley had six points and an assist during the spurt. Delaware trimmed the edge to seven at 53-46 with 10:29 showing, but got no closer. The game’s final margin was NU’s biggest lead of the afternoon. Tinsley had 18 points on 9 of 9 field goal shooting in the second half.
Wanda Almengot added 13 points for NU, while Betsy Palecek and Beth Hanewald had 11 apiece. Danielle Leyfert netted 17 points and had four assists for the Blue Hens.
Tinsley, who scored 33 points in NU’s last meeting with Delaware, broke the NU game record of Katasha Artis, who had 40 against Drexel on March 7, 1995.
