Northeastern 64, Boston University 46
Sophomore Lani Lawrence (Falmouth, MA) scored 17 points and had 16 rebounds to lead Northeastern to a 64-46 win over Boston University in an America East women's basketball game at Cabot Gym Thursday. The Huskies have now won six straight games for the first time since the 1994-95 season. NU clinched the second seed for next week's America East Championship in improving to 19-7, 13-5 in league play. The 13 conference wins are the most ever by an NU team. BU lost for the 12th time in its last 13 games and fell to 5-21, 2-16. The Terriers finished the regular season in 10th. Senior guard Tesha Tinsley had another strong performance for the Huskies, nearly posting a triple-double with totals of 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Betsy Palecek, who joined Tinsley in making her final home appearance, added eight points and eight boards. Sophomore Alison Dixon was the only Terrier in double figures, netting 17 points. She now has more points in two seasons than any previous player in school history. It was an ugly game on both sides, with NU committing a season-high 23 turnovers and BU 21. The Terriers couldn’t take advantage of the Huskies' sloppy play, however, shooting just 26.9 percent from the floor in the first half and 34.0 percent for the game. Lawrence was six for six from the floor with 13 points and nine boards in the first half as NU built a comfortable 34-22 edge at the break. Dixon scored the first basket of the game for BU's only lead. Lawrence had nine of the Huskies' first 11 points as her team took control for good. BU got within seven in the second half, the last time at 42-35 with 12:02 left, but could get no closer. Up 49-40, the Huskies went on a 13-2 run to take a 20-point lead, 62-42, with 1:40 showing. Lawrence also led NU to a win over BU at Cabot Gym in last year's regular season finale with 14 points and 18 rebounds. The Huskies have now won four straight over the Terriers.
