America East Tournament Quarterfinals
In the second quarterfinal game of the 1999 America East Women's Basketball Championship, #2 Northeastern outscored #7 Towson, 34-20, in the second half en route to a 58-46 victory at UVM's Patrick Gym on Thursday afternoon. The Huskies will now face #6 Drexel in the semifinal nightcap on Friday evening.
The Tigers held a 26-24 halftime lead but a 14-2 Northeastern run in the first six minutes after the break pushed the Huskies into a lead that they would not relinquish. They sealed a bid in the semifinals by hitting six straight free throws in the final 1:06. With the victory, the 20-7 Huskies earned their first 20-win season since 1984-85.
Lani Lawrence led Northeastern by scoring a career-high 19 points and grabbing a team high 13 rebounds. N.U.'s all-conference guard Tesha Tinsley added 13 points to move into second place in the Huskies' career scoring list.
Jess Gordon scored 13 and Mylisa Pilione added 12 for Towson while Shniece Perry had 12 rebounds for a two-game total of 28. The Tigers conclude their season at 12-16.
