| The women’s basketball team won its second straight game Saturday afternoon, an 82-69 victory over Stony Brook at Solomon Court. The Huskies had four players score in double figures, led by Lucia Pablos who had her second straight big game with 24 points and eight assists. Sophomore Kendra Walton chipped in 17 points and nine rebounds, while Shaleyse Smallwood had 18 points and eight rebounds. The Huskies improve to 5-4 on the season.
Northeastern was in control for the entire game, never losing control of the lead after Ashlee Feldman began the game with a three-pointer.
With the score 8-4, NU began an 11-5 run that increased their lead to 19-9. The Huskies continued to shoot the ball well, using the three-point shot as a weapon to increase their lead during the remainder of the half.
After Stony Brook got to within 19-14, a three-pointer by Feldman made the score 22-14. A three-pointer by Walton gave Northeastern a 35-25 edge with 3:58 to play, and a three from Pablos made the score 40-25 just before halftime.
In the second half, the Huskies took advantage of their many chances at the foul line, 27 in all, to keep the Seawolves at a safe distance. The Huskies made 21-27 in the second half, led by Pablos who made eight.
Stony Brook made two consecutive three-pointers to begin the second half, making the score 40-33, but that would be as close as Stony Brook could get. A 10-2 Northeastern run, punctuated by a Feldman three-pointer, made the score 50-35, more than enough cushion for Northeastern to maintain the lead the rest of the way.
The Huskies also played strong defense, holding Stony Brook to just 38.2 percent shooting, and they also forced Stony Brook into 19 turnovers, scoring 20 points off those turnovers.
The Huskies will return to the court on New Year’s Eve when they travel to local rival Boston College.
