The women's basketball team fell just short of upsetting Boston College Monday afternoon, falling to the Eagles 78-73 at Conte Forum. Mickel Picco of the Eagles hit a three-pointer with just over a minute remaining to increase Boston College's lead from 71-69 to 74-69, and the Eagles made their foul shots down the stretch to preserve the win. Ashlee Feldman led all Huskies with 17 points, and was among four Huskies to score in double figures.

The entire game was a back-and-forth affair played at a fast tempo, with both teams shooting a high percentage from the field. No team led by more than six points for the entire game until the final seconds.

With the Huskies leading 23-21 just past the midway point of the first half, Lucia Pablos scored two of her 15 points to give NU a four point lead. On Northeastern's next possession, a basket by Kim Carr gave the Huskies a 27-21 lead with 6:52 left in the half.

BC was able to tie the game at 31, then went ahead 34-31 on a three-pointer by Picco. A lay-up by Pablos made the score 34-33 with 2:02 remaining, and that was the score heading into halftime.

Early in the second half the Huskies went in front, 40-38 on a basket by Pablos. Northeastern stayed in front until the Eagles tied the score at 59 on a free throw by Ayla Brown with 7:21 to play.

The Huskies though jumped back in front on their next possession, thanks to a three-pointer by Feldman. On NU's next possession, a three-ball from Kendra Walton gave NU a 65-59 lead with 6:22 left.

BC though clawed back in front, scoring on four straight possessions. A basket by Stefanie Murphy gave BC a 66-65 lead, and a three-pointer by Picco on the following possession made it 69-65 for the Eagles with 3:11 left.

The Huskies got to within two points twice, the last time being at 71-69 after a basket by Walton with 1:46 to play. The Eagles though answered on their next possession, using another three-pointer from Picco to take a 74-69 lead with 1:19 remaining. Boston College was then able to make their foul shots in the final minute to hang on for the win.

Co-captain Stefanie Hodell was NU's leading rebounder with six, and she also provided six points and three assists. Shaleyse Smallwood with 16 points, and Walton with 11, were the other two Huskies to score in double figures. The Huskies shot 56.4 percent from the field, their highest mark of the season.

Northeastern falls to 5-5 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 11-3.

The Huskies return to the floor on Jan. 6 when they open up CAA play against Virginia Commonwealth at Solomon Court. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
