| The Huskies dropped a 67-54 decision to Delaware Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del. Kendra Walton was the Huskies' leading scorer and rebounder with 13 points and six boards. Delaware's senior guard Kyle DeHaven scored a game high 17 points and was among four Blue Hens to score in double figures.
Trailing by 16 after Delaware's Sha'ron Harrison began the second half with a basket, Northeastern started to rally. Jasmine Crew drilled a three-pointer, and Walton made a lay-up to trim NU's deficit to 11 points. Down 39-26, Walton made a three, and after a Husky stop, Stefanie Hodell's basket made the score 39-31.
The Blue Hens pushed their lead back to 12, but consecutive baskets by Crew and Tiffany Crews cut NU's deficit to eight points again at 43-35 with 13:16 to play. Delaware though prevented the Huskies from trimming its lead any further, as a 13-3 burst by the Blue Hens gave them a 56-38 lead with 8:28 remaining.
While both teams struggled from the field in the first half, Delaware was able to open up a 15 point lead with just under five minutes remaining in the half. Ashlee Feldman brought Northeastern to within 12 points by knocking down a three-pointer. After the Huskies held Delaware on its next possession, Walton collected an offensive rebound and converted a lay-up, making the score 29-19 with 2:55 remaining.
After a series of missed shots by both teams, Harrison and Kyle DeHaven both scored for the Blue Hens in the final 1:24 of the half, giving the home side a 33-19 halftime advantage.
After struggling from the field in the first half, Northeastern shot much better from the floor in the second, shooting 54.2 percent. Walton and Hodell each scored nine points in the second frame.
Crew earned her third start of the year and had a solid all-around game with seven points, four rebounds, and four assists.
The loss drops the Huskies' record to 0-5 in the CAA and 5-10 overall. Delaware snaps its three game losing streak and improves to 2-3 in the CAA, 3-14 overall. Northeastern returns to Solomon Court Thursday night when they host No. 20 Old Dominion at Solomon Court. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
