| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern 71, Hofstra 67 (OT)
Two foul shots by Shaleyse Smallwood with 35 seconds left in overtime and a defensive stop on the next possession helped the Huskies post a 71-67 win over Hofstra on Sunday afternoon. Smallwood scored a game high 32 points, including 10 in overtime, and was 6-6 from the foul line in the final 35 seconds. With the Huskies leading 63-62 in overtime, Smallwood stole the ball from Candice Bellocchio and hit a jumper with 52 seconds left, giving the Huskies a 65-62 lead. After two Hofstra foul shots, Smallwood was fouled with 35 seconds, and made both her free throws, making the score 67-64. A three-pointer by Britne Rodgers with 18 seconds missed on Hofstra's next possession, and after she was fouled again, Smallwood drained two more free throws with 12 seconds left to ice the game. Both teams had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation but could not convert. With 13 seconds left, Hofstra's Natty Fripp missed a jumper and Stefanie Hodell collected the rebound. After calling a timeout with eight seconds left to setup the final play, Jasmine Crew's jumper in the lane with three seconds left missed. Kendra Walton grabbed the rebound, and her short jumper with one second left missed as well, sending the Huskies to their first overtime game of the season. Northeastern trailed 31-26 at halftime, but an offensive outburst by Smallwood put the Huskies in front. The senior scored 10 of NU's first 13 points of the second half on 4-4 shooting, and helped turn a five point deficit into a 37-33 lead for the visitors. Hofstra dominated the first 10 minutes of the game, as the Pride shot the ball well and their full-court pressure defense forced Northeastern into several turnovers. That combination led to the Pride taking a 25-8 lead with 9:54 left in the half after an Ashley Wilcots basket. After Wilcots' basket, Northeastern then held the Pride scoreless for over four minutes, and used an 18-6 run over the remainder of the half to close the gap to five points at halftime. Northeastern began the run by scoring on four straight possessions. Walton drained a three-pointer, followed that up with another basket, then saw Smallwood and Tiffany Crews score to cut Hofstra's lead to 25-17 with 6:54 left in the first half. Natty Fripp answered with a three-pointer for Hofstra, but the Huskies then outscored the Pride 9-3 the rest of the half. NU's defense greatly contributed to the surge, as they forced Hofstra into eight turnovers over the final nine minutes of the half. Smallwood scored 26 of her 32 points in the second half and overtime and also had a team high six assists and four steals. The Huskies were also opportunistic, converting 24 Hofstra turnovers into 28 points. The win improves NU's record to 2-9 in the CAA, and 7-14 overall. Hofstra falls to 2-9 in conference play and 4-18 overall.
