The Huskies won their fourth straight game Thursday night, beating UNC Wilmington 64-58 at the Trask Coliseum in Wilmington, N.C. The Seahawks trailed the entire second half, but cut their deficit to five points with 52 seconds left. Two foul shots by Lucia Pablos with 32 seconds remaining gave the Huskies a 63-56 lead, enough of a cushion to secure the win. Shaleyse Smallwood scored a team high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Northeastern's four game winning streak is its longest since the 2003-04 season. The Huskies have also won five of six games, its best stretch of play since that same season. The Huskies staked themselves to an eight-point halftime lead and led throughout the half, never leading by less than five points. Several times the Seahawks attempted to rally, but each time NU hit a big shot to stop the rally. With NU leading 53-45, a three-pointer by Pablos gave the Huskies an 11-point lead with 4:53 to play. Greta Luksyte hit from three on the next possession, and after both teams went scoreless for over a minute, Becca Papach connected from three to make it a five-point game at 58-53 with 2:20 left. After a Husky stop, Kim Carr hit a foul shot, and after another stop, two foul shots by Pablos gave NU an eight-point, 61-53 lead with 1:03 left. Sasha Taylor hit a three for UNCW on their next possession, but the two foul shots by Pablos with 32 seconds left iced the win. The Huskies' defense was the story of the first half as Northeastern held UNC Wilmington to just 34.6 percent shooting from the floor. Northeastern used a 10-0 run in the early parts of the first half to open up a nine point, 13-4 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining. The low-post tandem of Carr and Kendra Walton combined for 19 first half points, 16 of which came in the paint. A jumper by Stefanie Hodell put NU up 21-10 with 6:52 to play, and after the Seahawks scored four straight points, Walton drilled a three-pointer to put the Huskies up 24-14. Papach scored for the Seahawks on their next possession, but Carr and Walton scored for NU on consecutive possession in the paint to give the Huskies a 28-16 lead with 2:14 left, their largest of the half. Carr added 13 tough points for the Huskies, while Pablos had 10. Hodell had a game high 11 rebounds. The win improves Northeastern's record to 6-10 in the CAA and 11-15 overall. UNC Wilmington falls to 7-9 in the conference and 16-11 overall. The Huskies return to the floor on Sunday for Senior Day against William & Mary.
