After a slow start, Northeastern rallied past Dartmouth in the second half for a 57-50 victory over the Big Green Thursday at Leede Arena. Kendra Walton and Jasmine Crew each had 14 points for the Huskies, who improve to 3-2 on the season. Northeastern returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to face LIU. Leading 24-20 at halftime, Dartmouth began the second half on a 10-2 run, puncutated by a three-pointer from Louise Vanden Bosch that gave the Big Green a 34-22 lead with 13:20 remaining. Through the first four games of the season, NU was shooting over 45 percent from three-point range, but in the first half they struggled, going 0-8. In the second half however, they turned it around. Trailing 38-29, Walton drilled consecutive three-pointers to get Northeastern to within 38-35. After a three-pointer by Koren Schram, a three from Ashlee Feldman made the score 41-38 with 6:15 remaining. With the score knotted at 41-41,a lay-up by Feldman gave NU its first lead of the game, and was followed by a steal and lay-up by Crew, giving the Huskies a 45-41 lead with 4:34 to play. With Northeastern leading 49-47, Dartmouth's Margaret Smith could only convert one of two foul shots, and NU took advantage on the ensuing possession, getting a lay-up from Shaleyse Smallwood with 1:02 to play, giving the Huskies a 51-48 lead. On Dartmouth's next possession, Lucia Pablos forced a steal, forcing the Big Green to begin fouling. With 26 seconds left, Smallwood converted to foul shots to seal the win for NU. Both teams got off to slow starts offensively, but the action picked up in the second part of the first half. A basket by Walton at the 10 minute mark began a 10-0 Huskies run that got the visitors to within three points. After a basket by Vanden Bosch, three straight Husky field goals by Tiffany Crews, Jasmine Crew, and Walton gave NU a 18-17 lead with 3:15 remaining. The Big Green however scored seven of the half's final nine points, and went into the break leading 24-20. Northeastern was very active on defense all night, as Crew had five steals and Walton had four. Smallwood and Pablos each had three as Northeastern had its best defensive effort of the season.
