The Northeastern women’s basketball team has announced its 2008-09 season schedule. The schedule features six contests against teams that advanced to postseason play, including three games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year.
The 29-game schedule, with 14 games at home and 15 games on the road, begins with 11 non-conference match-ups, two of which, are against Big East opponents. The Huskies will open their season against St. John’s on Nov. 14. and then will travel to West Virginia Nov. 21 to play a Mountaineer team that is coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance.
Northeastern will have its home opener against MAAC Champion Marist, on Nov. 21 at Solomon Court. Local rival Boston University comes to Huntington Ave. on Nov. 25.
The Huskies will start off the month of December with four straight road games. NU will take on Rhode Island (Dec. 3), Stony Brook (Dec. 6), New Hampshire (Dec. 14) and Massachusetts (Dec. 20).
Northeastern will play Delaware State for the first time on Dec. 28 at home, then wrap up the non-conference schedule on New Year’s Eve against Harvard at Solomon Court.
The Huskies begin their journey through the difficult CAA in New York against Hofstra (Jan. 4). NU will face UNC Wilmington (Jan. 15) at Solomon Court.
In February, Northeastern will travel to Virginia for two games where NU will play CAA powerhouses, in 17-time CAA Conference Champion Old Dominion (Feb. 5) and James Madison (Feb. 8).
The Huskies will also play home games against Delaware, Drexel, George Mason, Georgia State, Towson, and William & Mary. NU additionally will play Delaware, Drexel, George Mason, Georgia State and William & Mary on the Road.
The Huskies will travel to Virginia Commonwealth on March 1 and end the regular season on March 4 when Northeastern welcomes the Pride of Hofstra to Solomon Court.
The CAA Championship will be held March 12-15 in Harrisonburg, Va. at James Madison.
Northeastern looks to build off the 2007-08 season where the Huskies finished 14-16, and 8-10 in the CAA, reaching the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament. NU returns eight letterman and eight recruits for the upcoming season.
