Head coach Danyia La-Force Mann has announced the addition of Chanez Robinson (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X Shabazz) to her 2008 recruiting class, bolstering an already strong group of incoming freshmen. A 6’2 center, Robinson led Shabazz to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title in 2006 and 2008.

Huskies fourth most improved in Division I
The Huskies were the fourth most improved team in Division I women’s basketball in 2007-08, according to the NCAA. Northeastern won just four games in 2006-07, but turned things around this past season by earning 14 wins overall and eight in the CAA. The Huskies’ season featured a seven-game winning streak and a trip to the CAA quarterfinals. Northeastern comes in behind Winthrop, Syracuse, and Dayton on the list.

Feldman, Walton named 2008-09 co-captains
Ashlee Feldman and Kendra Walton will serve as the Huskies’ co-captains for the 2008-09 season, head coach Daynia La-Force Mann announced Wednesday. Feldman, a senior next year, is averaging 11.3 points per game for her career and has started 63 games. Walton, a junior next season, tied for the team lead in rebounds last year and was the Huskies’ third leading scorer.

Incoming freshmen Wilson, Cannon named All-State
Incoming freshmen Brittany Wilson (Providence, R.I./Bay View High School) and Kashaia Cannon (Providence, R.I./Bay View High School) have been named first team All-Rhode Island by the Providence Journal. Wilson is now a three-time first team All-Rhode Island selection and is the all-time leading scorer at Bay View. Cannon is a first team All-Rhode Island selection for the first time after being named to the second team the last two seasons. The pair will suit up for the Huskies beginning next season.

Carpenter named new assistant coach
Bill Carpenter has been named assistant coach of the Huskies, head coach Daynia La-Force Mann announced on Wednesday. Carpenter comes to Northeastern with 12 years of coaching experience and a track record of success that has followed him at every place he has coached. Carpenter’s most recent stop was at Dowling College, where he served as assistant women’s basketball coach during the 2007-08 season.

Huskies' first coach Rowlands passes away
Women's athletics pioneer Jeanne Rowlands passed away last week. Rowlands was Northeastern's first women's Athletics Director, NU's first women's basketball coach and was a Physical Education professor at NU. She was an advocate of women's athletics before, during and after the passage of Title IX. Rowlands was inducted to the Northeastern Hall of Fame in 1993. A celebration of life will be held on April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Sudbury, Mass., followed by a luncheon reception at Northeastern University's Henderson House in Weston.

Huskies enjoy big turnaround in 2007-08
Though their season ended with an unlucky bounce of the ball, the 2007-08 season for the Huskies can’t be considered anything but an out-and-out success. Led by second year head coach Daynia La-Force Mann, the Huskies won 10 more games than last season, which represents the biggest turnaround in the CAA. Northeastern also won five more CAA games than last season, the second biggest turnaround in conference only games.

Kashaia Cannon (Providence, R.I./Bay View HS) Jamie Conroy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford), Kristina Coppolino (Holmdel, N.J./Red Bank Catholic), Jayne Cox (Princeton, Ohio/Princeton), Daniela Iervolino (Manhasset, N.Y./St. John’s the Baptist), and Brittany Wilson (Providence, R.I./Bay View HS) will make up the class of 2012 for the Huskies.
