Smallwood nabs CAA Player of the Week honor

Shaleyse Smallwood has been named CAA Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Smallwood helped the Huskies to a 2-0 week with victories over George Mason and Georgia State, extending Northeastern’s winning streak to three games. Smallwood averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and shot 54.5 percent from the field over the two games.

In Thursday’s win over George Mason, Smallwood poured in 26 points on 6-11 shooting and was a perfect 11-11 from the foul line. The 26 points was her second highest total of the season. She also added five rebounds and four assists against the Patriots.

On Sunday against Georgia State, Smallwood scored 18 points, all of which came in the second half, as the Huskies overcame a five-point halftime deficit. She also nabbed five rebounds and had two steals.

Smallwood is the third Husky this season to be named Player of the Week, joining teammates Kendra Walton and Lucia Pablos who won the award on Nov. 19 and Dec. 17 respectively.

It is the third time in her career the senior from Boston has been named CAA Player of the Week. Last season she won the award on Feb. 26, and as a sophomore won the award on Nov. 27.

The Huskies will be looking for their fourth straight win when they take on UNC Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C. Thursday night at 7 p.m.
