Chelsea Perry has been named an assistant coach of the Northeastern women’s basketball team, head coach Daynia La-Force Mann announced Thursday. Perry comes to Northeastern after spending four years as an assistant coach at Union County College in Cranford, N.J., where she helped lead Union to consecutive region and conference championships.

While at Union, Perry was responsible for both recruiting and the development of post players. She also assisted in all aspects of practice and monitored the implementation and development of strength workouts.

“Coach Perry joins our staff with a wealth of experience both as a coach and as a player,” said La-Force Mann. “She will work closely with our post players to ensure the further development of our front court, and having worked with Coach Perry in the past I can attest to her work ethic and her dedication to the game. This experience will aid in my efforts to build a solid program at Northeastern.”

Perry was instrumental in the success of Union, helping the Lady Owls win both the Region XIX and Garden State Athletic Conference championships in 2007. As a result, Perry and the coaching staff were named GSAC Coaching Staff of the Year. In 2008, Union repeated as Region XIX and GSAC champions.

Perry began her coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Long Island University, where she worked alongside La-Force Mann from 1996-99.

Perry graduated from LIU in 1997 and enjoyed a four-year career with the Blackbirds where she played center. She briefly resumed her playing career in October 2002 when she suited up for a professional team based in Esgueira, Portugal that is a member of the Professional League of Portugal.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Management and Marketing, and a master’s degree in Marketing from LIU.

The Huskies are coming off a 14-16 season and were the fourth most improved team in Division I.
