Vicki Wancel will begin her third year with NU in 2008-09. Wancel joined the coaching staff after spending two years as an assistant at New Haven, one of which was served under La-Force Mann. Her duties include recruiting, scheduling, team academic monitoring, development of perimeter players, game planning, scouting and on-court assistance.

“Vicki brings a high level of maturity even though she is the youngest member of the staff,” said head coach Daynia La-Force Mann. “Having spent the last two years together, I’ve gotten to see the qualities in her that makes her a vital asset to Northeastern. She is extremely diligent and is very knowledgeable about the game of basketball.”

In two seasons at New Haven, Wancel helped coach a team that won 42 games and a conference championship. Under the guidance of La-Force Mann and Wancel, the Chargers won the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Prior to beginning her collegiate coaching career, Wancel enjoyed a standout collegiate basketball career at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team each season and earned the team’s Coaches Award in 2003 and 2004.

As a senior, Wancel helped the Red Foxes to their first-ever MAAC regular-season and tournament championships and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. She graduated from Marist in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Communications.

Wancel played her high school basketball at St. Francis Prep High School in Fresh Meadows, N.Y., where she received Honorable Mention All-American honors from USA Today and Honorable Mention All-City accolades from New York Newsday. She was ranked the ninth-best basketball player in New York City by the New York Daily News.

Wancel resides in Brookline.
