NU takes second in Rowlands Cup
March 26, 2005

The Radcliffe crew won the Rowlands Cup for the seventh consecutive year, defeating Northeastern and Boston College. The Cliffie's rowed the 2000-meter Charles River course in 6:34.8 to NU's 6:44.4 and BC's 6:52.1. It was the opening race of the season for all three crews.

Radcliffe took an early off the start line and had three quarters of a boat lead at the 500-meter mark. By 1000 meters they had a length and a half and by 1500-meters two lengths. They cruised over the finish line with a three length victory.

Radcliffe swept the triangular regatta by winning both the first novice and second varsity races.

This was the 22nd rowing of the Rowlands Cup with Radcliffe winning 18 and the Huskies four.

NU coach Joe Wilhelm thought the Huskies had a good row versus the perennially powerful Radcliffe boat considering it was the initial varsity outing for six of his eight oarswoman. NU faces Dartmouth, Buffalo and BC on the Charles next Saturday.

Varsity: Radcliffe 6:34.8; NU 6:44.4; BC 6:52.1
2nd Varsity: Radcliffe 6:52.4; NU 7:04.8; BC 7:13.8
1st Novice: Radcliffe 7:05.0; NU 7:17.9; BC 8:09.7
