Huskies win Orange Cup April 8, 2006 Lake OnondagaNortheastern’s women’s crew won the Orange Cup race on the 2,000 meter course at Lake Onondaga, defeating Syracuse and Pennsylvania by more than three lengths.
The Huskies dominated the race, taking a one-length lead over Syracuse at 500 meters and increased it to two-and-a-half at 1,000. By 1,500, the Huskies had a three-length lead and coasted to the finish. They finished at 7:18.3, battling strong head winds all the way, with Syracuse finishing at 7:32.7 and Pennsylvania at 7:37.5.
The win snaps a three-year reign by Syracuse over the Orange Cup and extends the Huskies’ series lead to 13 victories. Pennsylvania is next with 9, followed by Syracuse with 5. The Huskies also won the second varsity and varsity four races.
Next weekend, NU returns to the Charles to face Columbia and MIT.
