The Northeastern women's crew team opened its 2008 regatta season by defeating Dartmouth, Rhode Island and Boston College in a quadrangular race on the Charles River.

The Huskies rowed the 2000 meter course with the aid of a slight tail wind in 6:36.1 to best Dartmouth by nearly half a length with Rhode Island and BC trailing badly.

After 500 meters, Northeastern had powered to a three-seat lead over the Big Green. Even at this early stage of the race, it had become NU rowing Dartmouth for first or second and URI and BC battling for the third or fourth. At the 1000 meter mark, the Huskies had increased their lead to a length and held that margin to 1500. Dartmouth then upped their stroke and cut into the Huskies' lead by a half-length. NU responded at 1700 and held off the Big Green to win by 1.9 seconds. URI was third and BC fourth.

This was the 16th rowing of the race with Northeastern enjoying 10 wins to Dartmouth's three.

Next week Northeastern will host Syracuse and Pennsylvania on the Charles for the 27th rowing of the Orange Cup on Sat., April 12.
