The Northeastern University women's crew team lost to Notre Dame over the 2000-meter course in the first round of the Charles River Challenge on Saturday.
Notre Dame powered off the start line to establish a deck-length lead at the settle and slowly crawled to a four-seat margin at 500. But the next 1000 was all ND as they opened it up, and by 1500 had a two-length margin.
Their finishing time of 6:25.8 knocked 1.4 seconds off the Charles River record, and the Huskies' time of 6:30.2 bettered their best ever on the Charles by 1.7 seconds. The conditions, with a strong tailwind, were perfect for speed.
This evening, NU will row Syracuse and Gonzaga at 6:25 p.m., and tomorrow morning, Texas, at 8:50 a.m.
