Head coach Joe Wilhelm of the women’s crew team has signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Jennifer Fobes, Laura Carroll, Veronica Townsend and Kailyn Yard will join the Huskies for the 2007-08 season. A transfer from the US Military Academy, Jillise Ketchum, will join the Huskies in January.

Jillise Ketchum (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./US Military Academy) did not row in high school but started her career at West Point where she was also a member of the volleyball team. She learned to row her freshman year at West Point and will be an asset to NU for the spring semester.

Jennifer Forbes (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul School for Girls), Laura Carroll (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Veronica Townsend (Mays Landing N.J./Oakrest) all participated in the US Rowing Junior Development Camp and rowed in the National Champinoship Eight in Indianapolis, Ind. during the summer of 2006.

“Jen’s, Laura’s and Veronica’s participation in the US Junior Development Team had a big impact on their developmnent as athletes,” Wilhelm said. “It was a great opportunity to row with some of the best high school athletes in the country and receive top notch training and technical coaching. Making the top crew from that camp and winning the National Championship this summer was a combination of great potential and plain old hard work”

Kailyn Yard (Litchfield, Conn./Litchfield) was the captain of her high school crew team.

“Kailyn has been a standout in her high school and her leadership skills led her teammates to elect her captain,” Wilhelm said. “She has great character, work ethic and physical potential. We look forward to having her join the Northeastern program next fall”
