Dave Flint has been named the head coach of the Huskies, Northeastern Athletics Director Peter Roby announced Monday. Flint comes to the Huskies after four seasons as the head coach of the St. Anselm women's hockey team, where he had an impressive record of 88-15-2. With Flint at the helm, St. Anselm won two ECAC East regular season titles and three ECAC Open Tournament championships and led the nation in scoring defense in three of his four seasons. Flint is also the three-time reigning ECAC East Coach of the Year.

2008-09 schedule announced
The Huskies have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 season. In addition to 21 conference games, the 34-game schedule features 16 home games and 18 road games. The Huskies open up the season Oct. 3 at RPI and then take on first-time opponents Union (Oct. 4) and Bemidji State (Oct. 10-11). The team's first home game will be against Hockey East runner-up Providence on Oct. 18. In addition the team will host the annual Women's Beanpot Tournament at Matthews Arena in February.

13 Huskies named All-Academic
13 members of the women's hockey team were named to the Hockey East All-Academic team, the league announced on Wednesday. In order to qualify for the All-Academic team, players must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in each semester during which the team competed. Defenseman Katy Applin was also named to the Academic All-Star team after earning the highest GPA of any defenseman in the league.

Berman, Watt invited to national camps
Sophomore defenseman Lindsay Berman and incoming freshman defenseman Sam Watt were selected to attend upcoming National Under-22 training camps for the USA and Canada, respectively. The camps serve as tryouts for both countries' Under-22 national teams. In addition, former NU All-American goaltender Chanda Gunn will train with the USA National Team in Blaine, Minn., as part of the team's preparation for the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Huskies hand out team awards
The Northeastern women's hockey team recently handed out its end-of-season awards. Freshman goaltender Leah Sulyma took home the top honor of Team MVP, while Kristi Kehoe was named Rookie of the Year and Lindsay Berman was voted the team's "Unsung Hero".

Huskies add strong recruit for 2008-09
Northeastern has announced the signing of recruit Stephanie Gavronsky, a 5'9 defenseman, to a National Letter of Intent this week. Gavronsky is from Sherwood Park, Alberta and posted a 10-16-26 scoring line to lead her Sherwood Park Fury team to the Alberta Major Midget League finals. Gavronsky is also a member of Team Alberta and recently competed at the Canadian U18 National Championships.
