The Northeastern women's hockey team overcame a 2-0 first period deficit to score the game's next five goals and go on to the 6-3 victory over Providence at Schneider Arena.
The Friars jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.) and Danielle Culgin (Framingham, Mass.). Northeastern cut the lead to 2-1 as Kim Greene (Everett, Mass.) scored at the 15:44 mark of the first period. Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, Wash.) tied the game at 2-2 with 43 seconds remaining in the opening period.
In the second period, the Huskies took the lead for good as Whitney tallied her second goal of the game at the 5:00 mark. Greene also scored her second goal of the game just 1:25 later to give NU a 4-2 lead going into the second intermission. Brooke White (Berkeley, Calif.) made the score, 5-2, as she scored the first of her two goals at the 5:58 mark of the third period. Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) scored her first collegiate goal for the Friars to cut the lead to 5-3, but PC could not get any closer. White added her second goal at 18:31 to sela the victory for the Huskies.
The Friars outshot the Huskies, 20-17. Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made 17 saves for the Huskies, while Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) stopped 11 shots for the Friars in the loss.
With the loss, the Friars fell to 4-6-2 overall, 1-3-1 ECAC East, while the Huskies improved to 11-1-0 overall, 7-1-0 ECAC East. The two teams face each other on Sunday at Matthews Arena.
