BOSTON, MA - The Northeastern women's hockey team won their fourth consecutive game, defeating Brown on Saturday afternoon 2-1 at Matthews Arena. The victory ends NU's six game winless streak (0-5-1) against the Bears.

The Huskies improve to 14-1-0 on the season while the Bears drop to 4-5-1.

Following a scoreless first period, NU came out aggressive in the first period, putting nine shots on the Brown net before the Bears could manage one. NU broke through on one of those nine shots. Brooke White put a shot on net from in front that was saved by Brown goalie Katie Germain. The rebound bounced out to Lindsay Ball who deposited her fourth goal of the season at 1:41. The Husky lead grew to 2-0 later in the second period. Michelle Lorion controlled the puck behind the Brown net and passed to White at the left post. White then stuffed it in the net for her seventh goal of the year at 11:50.

The Bears kept plenty of the action over the second half of the second period in the NU end, firing 13 shots on the NU net over the final 11 minutes of the period. It looked like the Bears would be held off the scoresheet. But with time winding down the Bears mustered one final rush. Kristy Zamora passed up ice to Courtney Johnson who broke down the center of the ice. Johnson dropped the puck off to Jessica Link on the left wing who fired a blast from the circle past Gunn for the goal with only four seconds left in the period.

In the third period, the Huskies had 10 shots and the Bears eight, but neither team managed to score.

The win was the first for Northeastern over Brown since a 1-0 victory Feb. 14, 1999. The Bears had won five in a row and had eliminated Northeastern from the ECAC playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

Northeastern second-year head coach Joy Woog played four years of hockey at Brown, where she graduated from in 1994.

The Huskies have the rest of December off for holiday break and will return to action Jan. 4 at Connecticut.
