ORONO, ME - Northeastern completed the weekend sweep of Maine with a 4-3 victory over the Black Bears on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena.

Both teams had good chances to score in the first and second periods, but both Maine goaltender Lara Smart and NU goaltender Chanda Gunn made some impressive saves in net through the first two frames. Northeastern’s Pamela Pachal finally broke the scoreless tie when she fired a shot in close that bounced off two players and past Smart at 19:42 of the second period to put NU up 1-0. Michelle Lorion and Brooke White assisted on the goal.

It looked as though the Huskies might take over, as Lindsay Ball tallied her 6th of the season at 2:04 of the third period on an assist from White, but Meagan Aarts put in her own rebound a minute later for Maine’s first goal on the weekend. Aarts then tied the game when she stole the puck in the corner and lifted a backhander past Gunn at 11:09 for her 16th of the season and second of the game. NU answered right back as Brooke White and Brooke Whitney scored goals two minutes apart to put the Huskies back up by two. Maine didn’t give up hope, as Jamie Hill scored with 21 seconds remaining on an assist from Aarts, but the Black Bears couldn’t get a shot off as time expired.

Maine goaltender Smart made 27 saves as the Black Bears’ record dropped to 8-11-2 (2-8-2), while Northeastern’s Gunn made 22 saves for the 16-2-0 (10-2-0) Huskies.

The Huskies will return home for their first game at Matthews Arena since Dec. 8 when they host Cornell on Saturday Jan. 19.
