BOSTON, MA - Northeastern defeated Cornell 2-1 in overtime on Saturday Jan. 19 at Matthews Arena. It was NU’s second overtime victory of the season.

Following a scoreless first period, the Huskies were finally able to get on the scoreboard in the second. On the power-play, senior Brooke Whitney was set up by defensemen Kim Greene and Erica Archambeau at 16:53 for her 15th goal of the season. Whitney now has a goal in four straight games.

The Huskies remained ahead 1-0 until 6:54 of the third period when the Big Red finally managed to break through on the scoreboard. Sarah Olivier scored from Jenel Bode and Brooke Bestwick, tying the game 1-1. The score remained tied through the end of regulation.

At 2:11 of overtime, NU’s Pamela Pachal scored from between the faceoff circles giving NU its third straight win and seventh victory in the last eight. Whitney and Brooke White assisted on the play. For Pachal, who had not scored through the first 17 games, she now has a goal in each of the last two contests.

Chanda Gunn was strong again in net for the Huskies making 25 saves. She has now allowed one goal or less in 10 games this season. Liz Connelly made 18 stops for Cornell.

The Huskies return to action on Sunday when they host Yale.
