BOSTON, MA - The Northeastern women's hockey team defeated Vermont 5-0 on Saturday at Matthews Arena.

Junior Kim Greene (Everett, MA) scored two goals in the second period to put NU on top 2-0. Senior Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, WA) had a goal and two assists and Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, ONT) had a goal and an assist for the Huskies.

Northeastern has not allowed a goal yet this season in two games. Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, CA) played the first two periods, making nine saves and freshman Marissa Hourihan (Hanover, MA) played the final 20 minutes and made six saves. For Vermont, Tiffany Hayes (New Milford, CT) was strong in net, making 49 saves.

NU outshot UVM 54-15 for the game. In the first period, the Huskies put 17 shots on the UVM net, but Hayes made all the stops. It wasn't until 13:37 of the second period on the power-play that the Huskies finally broke through. Whitney won the faceoff back to Brooke White (Berkeley, CA) at the right point who slid the pass across ice to Greene. The junior defenseman fired home the one-timer for her first goal of the season. Greene put NU on top 2-0 at 18:23 on a wrap-around goal. The Huskies added a third goal with just 15 seconds left in the period. Whitney took a pass from Lorion in the NU end, raced up ice, and was able to score her first goal of the season.

In the third period, Lorion scored at 6:35 off an assist from Whitney and Julianne Socha (East Longmeadow, MA) completed the scoring when she slapped home her own rebound at 8:15. Trazana Brown (Randolph, MA) assisted on the Socha goal.

Northeastern next plays on Friday night at third-ranked St. Lawrence.
