BOSTON, MA — The Northeastern women’s hockey team defeated Boston College Tuesday night 2-1 behind two goals by senior captain Brooke Whitney. The win extends NU’s winning streak to five games.

Boston College scored first at 8:41 in the first period as Alaina Clark slipped one past Northeastern goalie Chanda Gunn, but that would be the only goal for the Eagles on the day. Gunn was sharp the rest of the game, turning away 19 shots.

Although Northeastern dominated throughout most of the first period, outshooting Boston College 15-8, they were unable to put one past Boston College’s freshman goalie Lisa Davis, who stopped 38 shots in the game. The Huskies finally broke through when Whitney skated along the endline and sent one top shelf to score the equalizer with only 25 seconds left in the opening period.

The second period went much like the first with the Huskies outplaying the Eagles but unable to score. But, Whitney again was able find the back of the net, ripping a slapshot past Davis.

With her two goals on the night, Whitney now has 17 goals and 33 points on the season, both team highs.

The Huskies closed out Boston College by playing tenacious defense in the third period, holding the Eagles shotless thru the first eleven and a half minutes.

Northeastern is now 19-2-0, 11-2-0 in ECAC Eastern while Boston College drops to 4-13-3, 1-10-2 in ECAC Eastern.

The Huskies return to action this weekend with a two-game series against Wayne State at Matthews Arena.
