BOSTON, MA — Brooke Whitney (Seattle, WA) and Brooke White (Berkeley, CA) combined for seven goals to lead the second-ranked Northeastern Huskies past visiting Wayne State 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena.

Whitney tied a career-high with four goals to go with an assist for a five-point day while White had her first career hat trick and an assist for a four-point game. Junior Kim Greene (Everett, MA) chipped in with three assists.

Whitney got things going with her first goal of the game at 16:34 of the first period off assists from Nancy Collins (Southgate, MI) and Jess Judge (Rowley, MA). Then, only 14 seconds later, White was set up by Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, ONT) for a score to put the Huskies up 2-0.

In the second period, Whitney scored her second of the game at 1:03 from Greene. Next it was White’s turn, as she scored her second goal at 6:14 with Greene also assisting on the play. Whitney completed the hat trick at 8:32, putting NU on top 5-0. Wayne State finally got on the board at 16:30 with a goal by Amie Hickerty (Calgary, ALB). But, with only 45 seconds left in the period, Whitney tallied her fourth of the game as she was set up by White.

Less than a minute into the third period, Collins scored NU’s seventh goal from Greene. The Huskies scored their final goal of the game when White achieved her first career hat trick from Whitney and Erica Archambeau (Pelkie, MI) at 5:57. Wayne State’s Kelly Zamora (Oshawa, ONT) scored for the Warriors at 10:24 to complete the scoring for the game.

Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, CA) earned the win in net for NU as she made 22 saves. Jennifer Buckley (Clifton, NY) finished off the game’s final 9:36, making three saves. Tinna-Anne Thibideau (Barrie, ONT) made 27 stops for Wayne State.

With the victory, NU extends its winning streak to seven games as the Huskies improve their record to 21-2-0 on the season. Wayne State falls to 3-19-2.

Northeastern next plays on Friday night at Providence.
