BOSTON, MA - Northeastern fell to Harvard 4-3 in overtime in the first round of the 24th annual women's Beanpot on Tuesday at Matthews Arena. It is the fourth straight year that NU has been eliminated by Harvard in the Beanpot in overtime, and the third straight season the score has been 4-3. In overtime, Harvard outshot Northeastern 8-0. NU goalie Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, CA) stopped the first seven shots. But the eighth shot at 9:59 found the back of the net to give Harvard the victory. Lauren McAuliffe (North Reading, MA) scored off a wrist shot from the right slot on assists from Nicole Corriero (Thornhill, ONT) and Ashley Banfield (Toronto, ONT). The final margin was the first time all game the Crimson led. Gunn finished the game with 38 saves, one off her season high. Allison Kuusisto (Duluth, MN) made 25 saves in picking up the win for Harvard. NU's Brooke White (Berkeley, CA) and Harvard's Tracy Catlin (Cambridge, MA) each had two goals. Kim Greene (Everett, MA) assisted on all three Northeastern goals. The Huskies got on the board first with just 10 seconds left in the opening period. Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, ONT) deflected a Greene shot for her eighth goal of the year. In the second period, Harvard tied the game 1-1 on Catlin's first of the night. She took a pass from Katherine Sweet (St. Davids, PA) as the two broke in on a two-on-one. Catlin's wrist shot from the left slot beat Gunn at 4:27. NU reclaimed the lead at 9:08. White skated around the Harvard goal and put a shot on net that deflected off Kuusisto's skate and into the net. The goal extended White's point streak to 10 games. But the Crimson tied the game 2-2 at 15:30 while on the power-play. Sweet took a pass at the left post in front of Gunn and slammed home her third goal of the year. In the third period, Northeastern took a 3-2 advantage at 14:23 when White scored a power-play goal. The junior knocked in a rebound of a Greene shot for her 15th tally of the year. The lead would be short-lived. Just 11 seconds after taking the lead, NU was whistled for a penalty, putting Harvard on the power-play. Then at 15:37, Catlin converted her second of the night to tie the score, sending the game into overtime. The Huskies had their nine-game winning streak snapped, dropping to 23-3-0.
