NIAGARA, NY - The Northeastern women's hockey team lost on Sunday afternoon 1-0 at Niagara in a battle for first place in the ECAC Eastern.

The Purple Eagles improve to 20-6-1, 14-2-0 in ECAC Eastern while NU drops to 23-5-0, 13-4-0 in ECAC Eastern play.

The lone goal of the game came just 28 seconds into the second period while Niagara was on the power-play. Teresa Marchese-Del Monte scored off assists from Brooke Bradburn and Bradi Cochrane.

It is the second time this season that Niagara has defeated Northeastern 1-0. The Purple Eagles handed the Huskies their first loss of the season back on Nov. 25 at Matthews Arena 1-0 on a goal by Valerie Hall. The day before, Northeastern defeated Niagara 2-1 to give the Purple Eagles their first conference loss of the season.

For the game, Niagara outshot the Huskies 24-14. Northeastern goalie Chanda Gunn made 23 saves while Tania Pinelli stopped all 14 shots she faced for the Purple Eagles. Both Gunn and Pinelli, along with NU's Brooke Whitney, are finalists for the Patty Kazmaier award.

After winning 23 of their first 25 games, the Huskies have now lost three straight games in a span of six days, all by one goal.

Northeastern next plays Boston University on Tuesday at Matthews Arena in the Women's Beanpot.
