STORRS, CT - The Northeastern women's hockey team improved to 5-0-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory at Connecticut on Friday night. Uconn falls to 2-2-1 on the season and 1-1-0 in ECAC.
Kimberly Berry (Haverhill, MA) put UConn on the board first with 1:10 left in the first period on a power play tally. Tiffany Owens (Belleville, MI) and Caitlin Salazar-Reid (London, Ontario) assisted on the goal.
Kim Greene (Everett, MA) evened the score 58-seconds into the second stanza, followed by the game-winning tally 1:16 later on a shot by freshman Jess Judge (Rowley, MA). It was Judge's first career goal. Northeastern added an insurance goal in the third period into UConn’s empty net on a breakaway shot from Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, WA) with 12-seconds left in regulation. Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) recorded 17 saves in net for UConn, while Chandra Gunn (Huntington Beach, CA) earned the win stopping 19 shots. Gunn has now allowed one goal or less in four of five games this season. Each team had 20 shots on net.
Connecticut and Northeastern will battle tomorrow night at Matthews Arena in Boston, MA at 7:00 p.m.
