BOSTON, MA — The Northeastern women’s hockey team defeated Boston College on Saturday at Matthews Arena 5-2 to extend its perfect record to 7-0-0 on the season, 3-0-0 in the ECAC Eastern conference. BC falls to 1-5-0, 0-5-0 in the ECAC Eastern.
Junior Michelle Lorion (Mississauga, ONT) scored a pair of goals in the third period, freshman Bekka Lass (Havre, MT) had her first two collegiate goals and junior Brooke White (Berkeley, CA) had three assists.
NU got on the board first at 7:04 of the opening period. Just 11 seconds into a power-play, Brooke Whitney (Snohomish, WA) took a pass from White, wheeled in front of the BC net and fired home her fifth goal of the season. The Huskies added to their lead at 11:57 of the second period. Lass, who was set up by Whitney and Erica Archambeau (Pelkie, MI) scored from in front of the BC net for her first goal of the season.
The Eagles battled back, cutting the deficit to 2-1 with only 40 seconds to play in the second period. Jessica Tychsen (Fifield, WI) controlled the puck at the left point and spotted Kelly McManus (Dedham, MA) open at the right post. Tychsen passed off to McManus who easily converted the play for her third goal of the season.
The Huskies created some breathing room in the opening minutes of the third period. Lorion scored her first goal of the game on a one-timer from a feed by White just 26 seconds into the period. She then added her second goal at 2:41 when she tipped in a Lindsay Ball (Victoria, BC) shot past BC goalie Lisa Davis (Plymouth, MA).
The Eagles kept the game interesting when Heidi Seidewand (Groton, MA) beat Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, CA) glove-side for her first career goal at 12:45 to make the score 4-2. But Lass sealed the win for NU with her second goal of the game, off assists from White and Lori DiGiacomo (Temecula, CA) at 18:24.
NU outshot the Eagles 26-11 for the game. Davis finished with 21 saves for BC while Gunn made nine stops for NU.
The same two teams will play again on Sunday, at Conte Forum.
